2017 is set to be the year of long anticipated new smartphones and while Apple fans have been going crazy about rumours concerning the iPhone 8, Samsung fans have basically been living through the same emotions. A teaser trailer at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 announced that Samsung’s Galaxy S8 will be first presented on March 29th. The South Korean tech giant is going to hold two major events in New York City and London and loyal fans are counting the days.
Samsung finds itself under enormously high pressure after the Galaxy Note 7 faced worldwide recalls. Several handsets had caught fire due to issues with the battery size and incorrectly welded batteries. After pouring oil on troubled water Samsung now needs to rehabilitate their image and the company has put all their energy into making a great comeback with the Galaxy S8. Their efforts to make an impression became very clear when Samsung used the MWC stage to send out an invitation to their own launching events. In the past the company used to unveil their newest phones at the MWC itself. Even though the South Koreans have not yet presented any details about their new product, experts as well as wannabe experts are flooding the internet with rumours what the Galaxy S8 might be like. Let’s have a look at what we might or might not know so far:
RELEASE DATE Samsung is known for being fairly rigid when it comes to their release dates. A close look at their phones’ release dates in the last years suggests that the new phone will launch in the last quarter of 2017.
DESIGN This is where it gets interesting. According to rumours the Galaxy S8 will probably come in form of a phablet, which suggests that we can expect a large screen. It is also a well-known fact that Samsung has been working on developing a foldable screen for years. Who knows, maybe 2017 is going to be the year in which we finally get to see and experience that? Experts doubt that though, saying that we shouldn’t expect Samsung to take any risks after the last fiasco.
FEATURES Photo-fanatics should be pretty excited about the rumours concerning a dual-lens camera with optical image stabilisation. Since the Galaxy Note 7’s battery already had 3.500mAh, we can expect the Galaxy S8’s battery to be big as well. People are also anticipating the phone to have a minimum of 64 GB storage and 6 GB of RAM.
PRICE It is always hard to predict the exact price of a product but since the Note 7 already retailed at 749 pounds it is to be expected that the Galaxy S8 will be expensive.
With less than two weeks to go until the official presentation we are afraid we will all have to show a little more patience. The only thing we know for sure right now is that Samsung’s Galaxy S8 is without a doubt one of the most anticipated new tech products of 2017.
