Here are some of the top new features of iPhone12

The new Apple phone will get a new housing and 5G modem, but this is not the end of surprises. According to the latest reports, the iPhone 12 will also be equipped with a ProMotion screen with support of 120 Hz mode.

We expect that despite the ongoing pandemic, Apple will traditionally show new phones in the fall. It is true that their debut due to coronavirus may be delayed by several weeks or months, but smartphones from the iPhone 12 family are expected to go on sale before the end of 2020.

According to recent reports, this top model, which will probably receive the name iPhone 12 Pro, is to offer a 120-inch screen with ProMotion support. This would be one of the most important changes compared to its predecessor, next to the new housing and support for 5G connectivity.

Apple has not yet shown a phone that would have a screen refreshed at a frequency higher than 60 Hz, and this value is accepted only by the so-called touch sampling. The competition in this respect outstripped Cupertino’s rival years ago. Support for 120 Hz mode went to such smartphones as:

Samsung Galaxy S20;
OPPO Find X2;
OnePlus 8 Pro;
ASUS ROG Phone 2;
Razer Phone 2.

Many of the companies also decided on the intermediate variant, i.e. 90 Hz. It increases the rendering interface smoothness relative to panels refreshed at a frequency of 60 Hz, but is not as burdensome for components as with 120 Hz support. There are already many such smartphones on sale, including:

Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro;
Poco X2;
Oppo Reno 3 Pro;
Realme X2 Pro;
OnePlus 7 Pro, 7T, 7T Pro, 8;
Nubia Red Magic 3S.

The list includes devices that cost much less than the top iPhones from 2019. Tim Cook, however, accustomed us to the fact that his company is usually not in a hurry to implement this type of novelty. The Cupertino company probably wanted to leave something for this year … in the mobile phone segment.

It is true that we are talking about LCD panels, not about OLEDs that are mounted on iPhones, but support for 120 Hz appeared in Apple’s mobile software along with the new iPad Pro as early as 2017. All subsequent devices from this line also support ProMotion mode.

Support extension for 120 Hz and ProMotion mode, which allows, among others dynamically change the display refresh rate to save energy per phone segment, this is a reasonable and long-expected step. This is not the only change we expect.
