It is not everyday that you come across something that is truly groundbreaking however Citizen, an app that is currently operating in New York City is incredibly impressive.
It uses a whole host of features including augmented reality. We have seen AR in use with Pokemon and most people may have thought, whats the point however Citizen uses it to let others know where to avoid crime.
How it works
Employees at Citizen scan and listen to police radio broadcasts that happen live in the city. When they hear a crime that is occurring such as a man with a gun on the loose or a violent woman with a hammer attacking people, Citizen then broadcast this news to all it’s users via the app with a notification. Users can then get a visual AR interpretation of the crime saying 100ft away where the crime happened so they can avoid this particular area.
